Treat Memory Loss and Forget About It...

Get the Lowdown on Memory Loss. With a little proper planning you can beat this age-related condition.

Forgetting familiar people and things can be a painful and baffling aspect of old age. Memory loss will probably affect all of us, sooner or later as we grow older. There comes a time in all of our lives when our recollection of people and events may seem to be just slipping away.

It is a helpless feeling, trying to hold on to familiar names, faces, people and places. Suddenly you forget the name of the man who has been serving you coffee at the neighborhood coffee shop for decades. You forget where you keep your glasses and find it impossible to recall phone numbers of good friends you have known.

This is a symptom of the normal aging process but the question remains: is memory loss treatable? Is there a way to figuratively "turn back the clock" and reclaim what has been lost? Can we go back to remembering small things like names of people, faces, places and important appointments?

Memory loss affects not just the person experiencing it but also the people around them who may feel helpless a they watch their loved ones suffer. Memory loss can have its roots in many different health conditions. Some of which may include Alzheimer's disease, stroke, amnesia and head trauma.

You can live an active life even while enduring memory loss. In fact, many therapists believe that the most effective way to break out of the affects of memory loss is to keep an active healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet, regular exercise and meditation or stress reduction programs.

How to Battle Memory loss

Memory loss can be tackled provided we take a few key steps. It is a good idea to be careful about your health and lifestyle. There is a very close relationship between the overall health of the human body and all the food we eat.

Healthy food and a balanced diet that includes portions from all the food groups will help in keeping your body healthy and provide it with all the vitamins and minerals vital to its smooth functioning.

The healthy body is like a well-oiled machine, even if one cog is ignored, there will be a malfunction. A balanced diet goes a long way in ensuring that the mind stays young and keeps working to its optimum capacity. This will help keep premature memory loss at bay.

Therapeutic activities like yoga and meditation keep the mind stress free and helps avoid the forgetfulness that arises out of tension. A lot of people in their 20s and 30s experience memory loss due to excessive stress and tension.

This kind of memory loss is not related to age but has its roots in stress. Stress hampers the effective working of the mind and causes a delay in reaction time. Time management, and the realistic scheduling of tasks can reduce more quite a bit of the total stress you experience, and in turn memory loss.

Exercises like walking, running, meditation and ta'i chi help not only to bust stress but also clear your mind and allow you to focus upon important tasks at hand thereby reducing the likelihood of forgetfulness.
